That doll has a wasp waist so you'd best leave a bit more ease on the side so it doesn't look too odd. In fact, before upgraded a few of my dolls' bodies, I would wrap the naked waist of these dolls to "widen their waists." I didn't upgrade all of these dolls because they are perfect for when you have a lot going on around the waist. But do a 2-dart sloper and then a 2-dart foundation, then send me what you've done via private message on FB.april_n_parishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14548456156450662065noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6558646734577104063.post-45276725116133854042017-03-31T15:42:52.556-04:002017-03-31T15:42:52.556-04:00I have dolls with that (older) body and I have slo...I have dolls with that (older) body and I have slopers for them. This is what we'll do. Go to www.facebook.come/fashdollstylist. Click on "message" and then send me a photo of what you've done so far on the doll. If you send it to me as a message, it won't be public. And I can better steer you as to how to resolve the issue. april_n_parishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14548456156450662065noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6558646734577104063.post-17165734172176213792017-03-31T15:19:26.793-04:002017-03-31T15:19:26.793-04:00Oh and yes my doll has a bit of a large bust, a FR...Oh and yes my doll has a bit of a large bust, a FR2 doll.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6558646734577104063.post-46137273782171569572017-03-31T15:18:45.664-04:002017-03-31T15:18:45.664-04:00The trouble I am having is with all of the excess ...The trouble I am having is with all of the excess fabric above the chest area. That said, depending on the shape and size of your doll's bust line, and how fitted or loose you want this dress to fit, will depend whether you use a one dart sloper or a 2-dart sloper to create your foundation and begin this process. Another instance when you can forego the second (underarm) dart is when you are making a sheath with sleeves (to facilitate ease of movement). april_n_parishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14548456156450662065noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6558646734577104063.post-13830408809222831132017-03-29T17:52:01.675-04:002017-03-29T17:52:01.675-04:00So this style doesn't need the side underarm d...So this style doesn't need the side underarm darts?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6558646734577104063.post-89639527760554024892017-03-28T14:59:56.158-04:002017-03-28T14:59:56.158-04:00No worries on the age thing lol. The other is simply a 2-part dress. That said, there is no "best." It's apples and oranges depending on the look you hope to achieve. The 2-pc where you join the bodice to a skirt, gives you a wide variety of options in terms of designing all sorts of styles. Just be conscious that a seam around the waist of any doll (with the exception of the FR Tall body and the older Barbie body) adds bulk to that area. Be careful of the weight of the fabric. The "sheath" is best when you are using a print or novelty fabric and want to keep seams to a minimum or when you simply want an simple, unobstructed basic dress. april_n_parishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14548456156450662065noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6558646734577104063.post-30247263014970213032017-03-27T21:59:02.591-04:002017-03-27T21:59:02.591-04:00What type of sheath is best for a fashion doll? About the sheath dress--pattern drafting 101 has no surprises. No matter who does it, the results will always look the same unless the doll's body is weird. The vertical darts will be as deep or shallow depending on the ratio between the bust to waist to hips. Anyway, as soon as I get to a computer, I'll follow your blog!! Good seeing you here. april_n_parishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14548456156450662065noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6558646734577104063.post-6572564990166798182015-11-03T11:21:40.795-05:002015-11-03T11:21:40.795-05:00April! I was struck by how we'd created similar patterns down to the vertical darts. Even though our methods are different we achieved good fit and stylish outfits. Thank you for sharing the process and results. I feel validated! I think 1:6 scale is difficult because the proportions can be so different from full scale. I always get very deep vertical darts on fitted dolly outfits.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6558646734577104063.post-40336735899479500942013-06-07T07:12:04.032-04:002013-06-07T07:12:04.032-04:00Emilyanne, thank you for the kind words.
